Crate Bar (2010)
An inexpensive bar composed of vegetables crates for the Goldsmiths 2010 design post-grad exhibition in Shoreditch Town Hall.
I had the pleasure to come up with a concept for an inexpensive bar design for Goldsmiths design post-grad exhibition in Shoreditch Town Hall. The prototype consists of 40 repurposed Sainsburys vegetable crates which we borrowed from their branch in New Cross Gate for a small deposit. The design produced no waste and didn’t cost a single penny. After we cleared the space, the crates went back to their normal everyday use as vegetables crates. You may call it “excycling & recycling”, giving an object a new purpose for a limited period of time until it goes back to its original use. As so many art and design exhibitions produce an incredible amount of waste, this concept considers what happens after the short-lived buzz of a design exhibition. The structure was assembled by the students of the MA Design and Environment of Goldsmiths University of London. Thanks to everyone participating!
